Saving Cambodia’s Great Lake

30 May, 2008 (09:21) | Cambodia, nature | No comments

Every May, when the rains come, water levels in the Mekong start to rise.
When the river flows into Phnom Penh it meets another river that drains from a lake in central Cambodia.
So full is the Mekong that it reverses that river’s flow, forcing water back upstream and expanding the lake more than five-fold.
This is the […]

Sometimes I am amazed by the inventiveness and wit of designers.
What is even more amazing, is that the above idea — brilliant, innit? — is not coming from me. I mean, come on, it should could be coming from me, no ?

No ?

Anyways… I stopped drinking coffee many years ago, and I’ve never […]

Balls of Steel. Yea.

Fifty days.
Also translates to a saving of roughly €750 ($1180), since I smoked three packs a day.

The image above has nothing to do with anything, except me showing off my mad 3D skillz, and that simple things can lead to greater things. Or something like that. Recursive mirroring et all…
This is how it looks in […]

Even writing about it makes […]

Honda Super Cub: 0 to 60 million in 50 years
Quoting Autoblog.com:
Marketing folks at Rover used to boast that the first car most people of the world ever saw was a Land Rover. That’s a pretty spurious claim, but anyone who has travelled in Asia will agree that the first vehicle that most of Earth’s residents […]

Peace, bro, peace.

According to the newest Global Peace Index for 2008, Belgium ranks 15th (out of 140 countries).
Not too shabby, but not great either.
As expected, Iceland scores the pole position.
Other countries of interest:
Cambodia: 91. Kinda expected. Could’ve been worse, like… Thailand: 118
Surprisingly, Vietnam ranks 37th, right behind France. Vietnam is where I’ll go next, I think.
And […]

Thirty-five days since I stopped smoking, and counting… wow, it’s been a trip.
I must say it has gone easier than I feared at first. Mind you, “easier” does not mean: easy. Going cold turkey from three packs a day to nothing in one day is not something to be er, coughed at.
But overall I’m managing […]
