My Thing is Huge.

19 January, 2008 (11:11) | Apple

iMac 24″

My new 24″ iMac 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo is sooooo frikkin’ huge that I’ve got a stiff neck just from looking at it from left to right, even from the other side of the table.

It’s also sooooo fast that it loads a web page even before I’ve launched Safari.

No, seriously, this is one hell of an incredible machine, and it’s going to do wonders for my productivity (especially in a Logic Pro environment) and efficiency. Or so I think.

The new flat, aluminum keyboard takes some time to get used to, but I think it’s quite all right now, probably even better than previous boards.

My only concern could/might be the glossy screen. I admit that photos and graphics look astonishing on this monitor, but I just don’t want to look at the reflection of my own face the whole day.

Wow, congrats on the buy, G!
Nice toy you have there, wouldn’t mind seeing that in real life some day ;)
Best of luck with it!

Woo! That’s very cool.

I just got myself a new PC, also with 24″ screen (not glossy though). I’m keeping my old 21″ screen alongside it, so I have some serious screen real-estate now (3520 x 1200)

Yea, that’s some serious glass there.

First, making sure my apartment is okay, then I’ll be buying a 2nd Apple 23″ later on, when finances permit.

Watch out, this could escalate into a glass war!

Any chance you could use some of that fresh glass to take a look at my photo (you know the one…) - I’ve got the money to print them (again).

I’m not into hard/software-related wars anymore — done with that (learned my lesson).

Yes, I was thinking of your photo lately, and will attend to it early next week. I’ve got bedrooms and studios and living rooms and kitchens to finish right now… Ouch, my bones and muscles hurt from bending, kneeling and assembling Ikea stuff. Getting old…

Hmm.. bought my first mac a few months ago and discovered that leopard is just as full of bugs as anything microsoft tend to chuck out.

Don’t even get me started on Linux… after 14 years of installing various distros and always ending up disappointed, I thought I’d finally found a version which (after quite a bit of fiddling under the bonnet) actually worked. I thought too soon though - the wireless network card, which only worked after hours fiddling with obscure text files, just decided to quit on me. And this is a supposedly Linux-ready card!

…and your point caller?
Seriously though I appreciate your comments and advice Dan. I just cant seem to understand why, in this day and age there is no one that can offer a fast and stable OS.
Anyone remember the old chip based OS’s from commodore and Atari? As shitty as they were you at least had a bit of confidence in them. In some point in the future there will be someone who writes a stable os, sells it, and makes a fortune. Why? because at the end of the day we all only want something that you switch on and works (sic). If something is going to fall flat on its ass, then let it be the software that surrounds the core, not the whole freckin thing!
Anyhoo. Dan you have just saved me fifty pence on this edition of Red Hat so I recon I owe you a pint.
(this frazepint token is only available in the eu and south east asia. If you or any of your family is related to fraze in any way, then this offer is null and void. His wife doesn’t want to know.)

Leopard works just fine for me, Fraze. Very fast and very stable.
Admittedly there’s a few bugs here and there - some minor, some less-than-minor - but nothing earthshattering and certainly not anything to de-stabilize the system. Most bugs will be ironed out very soon now (in fact, any day now) with 10.5.1. That version will also bring forth a darth of amendments, changes and additions to Leopard, so Apple effectively has been listening closely to its customer base. Not exactly what Microsoft has been doing lately, since Vista users are still waiting for their SP 1…

As for Linux, it is strictly forbidden to even mention that word here. I have my reasons for that, plus, I’m the boss here ! :-)

Other than that, good to see you still hanging around here, Fraze, despite SC not being so south-Asian oriented anymore. Thanks !
