WebKit Nightly Build

I just installed (*) the new build of WebKit, which will be incorporated in the new Safari 3.1, due out any time soon.

Amazing.

Running WebKit r30123 next to Safari 3.04, most sites load 2 times, perhaps 2.5 or even 3 times faster. Page loading - even for graphics-intensive sites - is so blindingly fast that you can’t even see the different sections of a site being build up. It’s just there instantly. Like, *boom!*.

Of course, the new Safari 3.1 will show a lot more goodies than just warp speed. Things like CSS Transforms, CSS Animations and downloadable fonts (frikkin’ finally!) will shape and form the future of the Web (and web design as such) in a variety of interesting ways. Can’t wait to lay my hands on those…

WebKit’s Nightly Builds can be downloaded here (Mac and Windows).

(*) Installing is a bit of a misnomer here. Just double-click the WebKit icon, et voila, *boom!* Not sure if that works as simple for a Windows install though.

Note: For those not familiar with *boom!*, here’s some help:
